Calling aspiring helms to join the British Youth Sailing (BYS) Youth Crew4Gold programme!

British Youth Sailing, in collaboration with the Performance Academy, is proud to be continuing the Youth Crew4Gold initiative by looking to further bolster the pool of skilled skiff sailors, focusing on crews within the Youth Pathway, and demonstrating just now ambitious the programme’s goals are for 2024.
Our primary objective of Youth Crew4Gold is to enable more female skiff sailors who are highly skilled to crew within the Youth Pathway. The goal is for us to double the number of female crews in 2024, within just a year since the 2023 29er Nationals.
If you’re a current 29er helm or looking to get into the class, this is your opportunity!
Initially, we will aim to seamlessly and successfully transition the selected group of crews into the 29er class. We will ensure that sailors find the right partnership and are guided into boat ownership with equipment support.
Following this initial phase, 4 weekends of key training will ensure that sailors rotate through pairings and sail with everyone. Bookable as one or two-day sessions, boats are provided for all sailors in addition to regional invitations issued to explore potential local pairings. Sailors will also benefit from coach and sailor feedback to facilitate the creation of effective partnerships.

The final exciting phase sees a refinement of skills through class-specific regional and national sessions. These will provide an environment in which the newly created partnerships can truly develop their 29er specific skills together.
Equipment support will continue throughout for sailors who can either utilize either their own boats or be provided with charter boats at an additional cost.
