In the first event to be completed on the 2028 Olympic waters, the Performance Academy’s group of sailors had a fantastic time in Los Angeles for the 2025 ILCA 4 World Championships.
Under head coach Charlie Linsell, six of the sailors progressed to the gold fleet by the end of the full 12-race series, while the silver fleet sailor also impressed with multiple top ten finishes. Stand-out performances included Toby Waggett’s 4th place U16 and 13th overall, and Jess Powell’s 4th place U16 and 24th overall.
The championships offered a mix of conditions, with light and heavy winds, flat water, swell, and chop which provided an all-around test. There was plenty of evidence of the work put in over the winter helping lead the group to some fantastic results, and the experience gained in Los Angeles is sure to help with many of the sailors competing in the upcoming UK ILCA nationals in a few weeks’ time.
Charlie Linsell, Performance Academy Head Coach shared,
“I’m super proud of the team, it was clear to me that everyone was putting in a serious shift, and it was so cool to see everyone learning and progressing through the six days of the championship. It was a tough fleet, and I am proud of what everyone was able to achieve, and how great the team dynamic was, the support on show for one another was really remarkable to see”.
Charlie is now staying in Los Angeles, ready to kick off the ILCA 6 World Championships next week.
